Downtown Apex

Small Town Charm

Downtown Apex stands as the hallmark of our town, steeped in history as one of the most well-preserved turn-of-the-century railroad towns in the region. Officially designated as a Historic District in 1994, its charming streets are lined with commercial and residential buildings dating back to the late 1800s, showcasing a delightful variety of architectural styles. Many of these buildings hold a place in the National Register of Historic Places. The Apex Train Depot, constructed sometime between 1867 and 1873, stands as a proud Wake County landmark, marking the highest point on the old Chatham Railroad. Today, with the addition of an old caboose serving as a historical exhibit, the Depot serves as our warm Welcome Center, embodying the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of Apex. We can’t wait to share it all with you!
