DESCRIPTION:Juneteenth is celebrated across the country to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The Town of Apex’s Juneteenth Festival celebrates this important day in history\, and promotes equity\, respect\, and understanding between people of all backgrounds and cultures. \nThis year’s celebration features: \n\nLive music and entertainment with 97.5 FM DJ Brian Dawson\, 97.5 FM Emcee Ron Huff\, Caliente Babe\, Empowering Steppers\, GRAMMY nominated artist – Pierce Freelon\, and NiiTO\nChalk the Walk on Seaboard Street (claim your chalk spot here or walk up day-of!)\nFood trucks like Quizine Orleans\nHistory exhibit in the Depot\nDigital media and art Installation with Middle Creek High School\nJuneteenth stories hosted by Eva Perry Library\nLocal vendors\n\nSchedule of Events \n\n11:00 am: Event kickoff with Big Ron and flag raising with Apex Police Department Chief Armstrong\n11:00 am: Opening remarks from Mayor Gilbert\, Town Council\, and Juneteenth Committee\n11:30 am: Juneteenth stories @ the Halle Cultural Arts Center\n11:45 am: Caliente Babe line dancing\n12:15 pm: Presentation of the Apex Freedom Day Honoree\n12:30 pm: Juneteenth stories @ the Halle Cultural Arts Center\n1:00 pm: Pierce Freelon children’s musical performance\n2:30 pm: Empowering Steppers performance\n2:30 pm: Juneteenth stories @ the Halle Cultural Arts Center\n3:00 pm: Apex First Baptist Youth Choir performance\n4:00pm: NiiTO Band performance\n\nKnow Before You Go:\n\nView the downtown parking map for walkable parking locations.\nSalem Street\, from Center Street to Saunders Street\, and a partial section of Seaboard Street will be closed from 9:30 am to 7 pm for the festival. The Depot parking lot (220 N. Salem Street) will close at 12:00 am on Saturday.\nGoApex Route 1 will operate on an alternative route during the festival and road closures. View the detour map\nTown staff may be on site during the festival taking photos/video of festival events and attendees.

Enjoy a day of inclusion typically featuring the following: \n\nLive music and entertainment\nKids Zone with inflatables and games\nFood truck rodeo\nLocal vendors\n\nKnow Before You Go:\n\nParking is closed on June 8th from 8 am to 6:30 pm at Town Hall Campus including spaces in the Town Hall parking lot\, John M. Brown Community Center parking lot\, the arch parking lot\, and the driving path in between. View the downtown parking map for walkable parking locations.\nAccessible parking spaces are available in front of the Community Center.\nThere will be no road closures during this event.\nTown staff may be on site during the festival taking photos/video of events and attendees.
